'How do you want to live here? I mean we could come and go and lead separate lives. Or we could really live together. What do you think?'

Aged 18, three women join forces. Life is fun. Living is intense. Together they feel unassailable. Crackling with wisdom and wit, Di and Viv and Rose is a humorous and thoughtful exploration of friendship's impact on life and life's impact on friendship.

Di and Viv and Rose charts the steady but sometimes chaotic progression of these three women's lives and their ultimately enduring bonds. The varied journeys of their lives take their toll on the characters, forcing them apart and stretching their relationships with each other to a near breaking point.

16 Di and Viv and Rose  Rose Poor Conrad. honestly think it’s as difficult for boy  to have big thing as small one. mean, like Conrad’s  thing – lot – but it needs to be treated with respect. You  know. No sudden changes of plan. No rushing into things.  You won’t tell anyone, will you? Seriously, because it’s not  joke. It’s his body. And honestly think he’d wear plus fours  anyway.  Viv Why? What’s he saying? ‘I am toff.’ Why would  anyone want to say that?  Rose He just likes them.  Viv tinkers with the bases of the bowls and Blu-Tack as she talks,  crossing to fetch sticky tape from her toolbox, etc.  Viv Clothes are signifiers. We’re not covered in fur any  more, we don’t have uniform for the species, so every day  we put on costume to signal what we want to say about  ourselves. Everything’s costume. Look at Di. Her costume  says, ‘I am lesbian. embrace the lesbian world. I’m mad  for everything lesbian until such time as go back to my  mum’s for Christmas.’ Your costume is interesting. It’s sexually  enticing in the most carefully calibrated way. You appear to be  wearing jeans and T-shirt –  Rose am!  Viv – with an artlessly tied bow in your hair. What you are  saying is – ‘Hey everyone’ – by which mean men – ‘I am  straight. Fancy me. am conforming to the norm enough to  not alarm you, which will therefore attract you, but have  incorporated enough of dash of individuality to make you  feel you are not making run-of-the-mill choice – which will  attract you further still.’  Rose Viv. You’re an intellectual.  Viv am very interested in this subject. I’m going to write  great works on it.  Rose looks at Viv’s war-time clothes.  Rose What does your costume say, then?
