En 2020, Ecuador cumplió dos décadas desde que el Gobierno de ese entonces anunciara la adopción del dólar estadounidense como moneda de curso legal y sustituyera al sucre. En estos años, Ecuador atravesado épocas de turbulencias económicas, sociales y políticas. Pese a estos eventos adversos, la dolarización ha podido mantenerse. La inflación se ha situado en rangos inferiores a un dígito, el desempleo presenta niveles moderados, entre otros aspectos. Aunque la dolarización proporciona un ancla para la inflación, esta no garantiza la resolución de problemas estructurales e institucionales más profundos de una economía. El propósito de esta obra es entregar al lector las herramientas necesarias para comprender las implicaciones de la dolarización, responder a varias de las interrogantes planteadas y aportar nuevos elementos de discusión para posteriores investigaciones en el ámbito económico, en especial del sistema monetario ecuatoriano.
